先週金曜の夜

構造生物学部門のUNIXマネジャーだった人が10年勤務したあとに転職したのだが（全員漏れなく年限のある研究所なのである）、その送別会で消費されたアルコール。

P.S. I've kept a copy of the bar receipt for posterity, I may well frame it with the 'spot' poster! We all managed to drink 93 Pils, 49 bottles of Jever, 38 cocktails, 28 spirits, 24 Hefe + Kristalweizen and over 20 other assorted strange alcoholic drinks and 25 non-alcoholic drinks! And one, single, Espresso! It was a great night, thanks!!

ガルガンチュア的というかなんというか。しかもこれ、全部当人が払う。ざっと勘定して、700ユーロだから、10万円強ぐらい。いかにもイギリス人な皮肉屋でなおかつ技術者としても優秀、みんなに好かれていたので、参加者が多かった、ということもあるが、人気者ほど誕生日にしろ送別会にしろ出費がかさむという人気税。なお、Jeverは、ドイツではどこでも売っている一般的なビール。"Hefe + Kristalweizen"は酵母入りビール。前者が濁っていて、後者はろ過してある。
