”日米同盟”なぞという同盟いつきまったのだ、誰が決めたんだ、と昨年さんざんくさしたのだが、関連。
Till the cows come home

Thus far, Japan has been another "trust me" issue for President George W Bush. Both Japan and the US have managed the relationship by declaring it the best ever. This "best ever" is merely a one of semantics. It is a linguistic wish from a White House willing to looking the other way on a range of frictions. As Congress starts to examine Bush administration foreign policies they are likely to find that neither the trade nor security aspects of the US-Japan relationship have matured enough to warrant an "alliance".
ざらっと読んでいて、上の部分が目に止まった。ブッシュの評判も底までいっとるのだなあ、と思ったのだが、対日に関してどの程度評判が悪いのか、と思って、上にもどって読んだらひどいことになっていた。つい最近ワシントンで対日貿易と外交に関してそれぞれヒアリングがあったらしく、その様子のレポート。結論からいえば日本の評判は徹底的に悪い。同盟関係なのに、米国は一方的に損をしている、という怒りでヒアリングは渦巻いたという*1。進まぬ「改革」しかり、靖国参拝しかり、サマワで引きこもる自衛隊しかり（血をもっと流せっていっているのである）。で、上の引用部分になるわけで、このところのトレンド「ブッシュがだめだからだ！」*2ということになったのだった。となるとブッシュが失脚すると日米関係は冷え込む。これまでの日本官僚の定石から言えば無論、コイズミさんも同時に失脚である。目に見えるこの近未来、脱米ソフトランディングの方策を真剣に考えるべきである。
